Did you know that Papua New Guinea (PNG) is one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a woman?
Some of the basic women’s rights that we have fought so hard for in Western countries are not even on the horizon for our sistas in PNG.
Whilst we are making cracks in that glass ceiling, women in PNG are lucky to have a paid job. Whilst we have the right to marry whomever we want (yes even a sista!), women in PNG are unable to escape violent marriages. Shockingly, more than two in three women in PNG have experienced violence.
Bham has chosen to partner with a social enterprise in PNG that focuses on empowering women. For each pair of Powerpants sold, a $1 contribution is made to our partner to deliver much needed services and support to female survivors of violence in PNG.
Together, we can change lives.
We’ve partnered with the Papua New Guinea Tribal Foundation, a non-profit and non-governmental organisation that focuses on the empowerment, health and safety of women in PNG.
The Tribal Foundation runs numerous projects that are aimed at showing the value of women, combating gender-based violence, and supporting female survivors of violence.
Funds raised through the sale of Powerpants will support projects like the economic sustainability program “Light up PNG” that supports women to become financially independent by selling solar-powered Luci Lights in their communities.
